JACKSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. — At least five people were treated for injuries after an incident on a roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure theme park.
Five guests who had been riding El Toro, a wooden roller coaster at the park, complained of back pain after getting off the ride, WCAU reported. A park spokesperson told the station that the five people were taken to a hospital to be evaluated.
Police told WCAU that emergency crews were called to the park just before 8 p.m. Thursday. The station’s helicopter saw several ambulances in the parking lot.
El Toro is a 19-story roller coaster that features a 176-foot drop at a 76-degree angle, and reopened this year after a partial derailment last summer, The Asbury Park Press reported. Nobody was injured in that incident, and in a statement last February the park said that all necessary modifications and repairs to the ride had been completed.
The park told KYW-TV that the ride will stay closed for inspection.
