SPENCER, Okla. — An Oklahoma man who shot his wife in the head was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday.
Aaron Critton Houchins, 27, of Spencer, was sentenced for the Oct. 20, 2021, shooting of Jessica Houchins, 33, KOKH-TV reported. He must serve at least 35 years of his sentence before he is eligible for parole, according to the television station.
Houchins was arrested and charged with shooting with intent to kill, KFOR-TV reported.
He accepted a blind plea, according to the television station.
According to Lawyers.com, a blind plea is a guilty plea without a binding sentence. The defendant did not reach a deal with prosecutors about a sentencing recommendation or pleading to a lesser crime. The judge has the discretion to pass sentence.
Jessica Houchins was taken to an area hospital and survived her injury, KFOR reported.
