Sometimes all people need is for someone to take a moment to listen to them.

A man in Texas is doing just that — lending an ear to listen to those who just need to talk.

Will Norman started setting up his listening tent in mid-May in the town of Azle, Texas, KDFW reported.

Norman was feeling down while facing cancer and having a back injury. But instead of complaining, he’s caring for others just by sitting and listening to what they have to say.

“I just went through some hard stuff, a traumatic experience and felt like there was no one there. And I thought maybe other people need to talk, and they did. And so, I just listen and they just keep coming and keep coming,” Norman told KDFW.

Norman told WFAA that he felt alone.

He’s on leave from work so instead of sitting at home, he sits under the canopy almost every day for a free chat that is both confidential and without judgment. He doesn’t add his two cents unless asked to do so.

“It’s everything from people who have had death in their family, cancer, just family issues. They have no one to talk to or it’s something they can’t talk to their friends or family about and they just need a stranger to talk to. And then there’s a few that just want to talk about, they want to complain about the weather or politics or traffic. Anything they need, I’m there. They just need to vent,” Norman told KDFW.

Norman is not a therapist, just someone who listens.

One piece of advice he gives everyone who visits his tent is “No one can help everyone, but everyone can help someone,” WFAA reported.
