The point guard, who transferred to Indiana after three seasons at the University of Pittsburgh, was released from the Monroe County Correctional Center at 10:32 a.m. on a $2,000 surety and $500 bond, the Herald-Times of Bloomington reported.

Johnson, 22, helped lead the Hoosiers to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016, playing 34 regular-season games and averaging 12.1 points per game. He also led the team with 5.1 assists per game, the Herald-Times reported.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder has one year of eligibility remaining, WISH-TV reported.

Johnson had back-to-back 24-point games against Maryland and Minnesota and a 20-point effort in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals against Iowa, according to the television station.

The men’s basketball program released a statement about Johnson’s arrest.

“IU Athletics and the men’s basketball program are aware of the charges involving Xavier Johnson,” the university said. “IU Athletics will continue to gather facts, cooperate with and monitor the legal process, and take further action as the evolving situation warrants.

Police said an investigation is ongoing.
