HOUSTON — After he lost his life while in the custody of police officers in Minneapolis, now George Floyd and his family may be escorted during his funeral service by the Houston Police Department.
Chief Art Acevedo offered his officers to the Floyd family to provide security and a final honor for Floyd.
According to KPRC, Acevedo said, “If they give us that honor because we are bringing him home, we want to be part of that journey.”
Mayor Sylvester Turner said Floyd’s service could help repair the connection between police and the community, KPRC reported.
The amount of security used to transport Floyd will be similar to that of when an officer dies in the line of duty, KTRK reported.
More information about Floyd’s funeral will be given Tuesday, according to KTRK.
