“We took immediate steps to address what we heard from customers, reaching out to every person who received French Lentil + Leek Crumbles, instructing them to dispose of the product and not eat it,” the popular New York-based meal delivery service wrote in the recall notice posted to its website Sunday.

“We simultaneously launched an investigation with internal and external experts throughout our supply chain and in accordance with regulatory procedures. We will share more information as soon as it’s available,” the company added.

NBC News viewed an email that Daily Harvest sent Friday to one customer, asking them to throw away the lentils “out of an abundance of caution” and offering a $10 credit for every bag of the product purchased.

Daily Harvest is comparable to services such as Blue Apron and Hello Fresh, the network reported.

The company advised consumers to immediately dispose of any French Lentil + Leek Crumbles products and encouraged those with questions to email hello@daily-harvest.com for further assistance.

“Our mission has always been to take care of food so food can take care of you. That means quality, safety, and transparency are and always will be our top priorities,” the company stated.

Luke Tashie, a Daily Harvest customer who shared his recall email from the company with NBC News, stated in an email to the network that he does not believe the company has acted quickly enough to address the matter.

Specifically, Tashie told NBC that he is concerned about long-term liver damage after consuming the Daily Harvest product and being hospitalized with “extreme liver pain” afterward.

“The surgeons that consulted with me were so perplexed that they seriously considered removing my gallbladder,” Tashie wrote.
