ORLANDO, Fla. — Officials with Universal Orlando Resort on Friday announced the cancellation of this year’s Halloween Horror Nights events due to the threat posed by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, WFTV reported.
Halloween Horror Nights had been scheduled to run from Sept. 10 to Nov. 1 at the resort.
"Universal Orlando Resort will be focusing exclusively on operating its theme parks for daytime guests, using the enhanced health and safety procedures already in place," theme park officials said Friday in a statement. "We know this decision will disappoint our fans and guests. We are disappointed, too. But we look forward to creating an amazing event in 2021."
The event is expected to return in 2021, according to WFTV.

Theme park officials said that people who have bought tickets or vacation packages for the 2020 event will have the option to use their tickets or packages next year or to receive a refund.
All three of Universal Orlando’s parks were reopened last month after they were forced to close due to the coronavirus pandemic. They were the first of Orlando’s three major theme parks to reopen, WFTV reported.
