MINNEAPOLIS — The father of U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar has died from coronavirus complications, multiple news outlets are reporting.
“It is with tremendous sadness and pain to say goodbye to my father, Nur Omar Mohamed,” the Minnesota Democrat tweeted shortly after 11 p.m. EDT Monday. “No words can describe what he meant to me and all who knew and loved him.”
The tweet also included a photo of the pair and a quote from the Quran that read, "Surely we belong to God and to him shall we return."

In a statement obtained by KARE-TV and the Star Tribune, Omar and her family requested “respect and privacy during this time.”
As of early Tuesday, the United States had reported more than 2.1 million confirmed coronavirus cases and at least 116,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
