Coronavirus: Face mask dispute leads to shooting outside Family Dollar store, police say

ST. LOUIS — An argument about face masks led to a shooting outside a Family Dollar store in Missouri, authorities said.

According to KTVI and KMOV, the incident occurred Monday at the store in St. Louis’ Gravois Park neighborhood. Employees said Joc’Quinn F. Perry, 29, did not have on a mask while shopping at the store, which requires customers to wear facial coverings during the coronavirus pandemic, St. Louis police said. When workers asked Perry to leave, he and a friend became angry and said they’d “shoot up the place,” the news outlets reported.

When someone followed the pair outside to ensure that they were leaving, Perry shot at the person, who fired back, striking Perry, authorities said.

Police arrested Perry on charges of first-degree assault, unlawfully possessing a firearm and armed criminal action, KMOV reported.
