WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Authorities in California have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a 1-year-old baby in West Sacramento.
According to KOVR, police arrested Derrick Woods, 43, of Sacramento, on Tuesday, one day after authorities discovered the infant dead during a welfare check at Silvey’s Motel on West Capitol Avenue. The baby girl had suffered “traumatic injuries” before her death, West Sacramento police said in a Facebook post Monday.
Police later obtained a homicide arrest warrant for Woods, who “was last seen fleeing the area on foot at the time of the incident,” according to the post, which requested tips on his whereabouts.
In a Tuesday update, the department said its officers, as well as Yolo County District Attorney’s Office investigators and Sacramento police, found and arrested Woods at a Sacramento home.
