DENVER — A single mother getting back on her feet after dealing with domestic violence is even more worried after a burglar broke into her home and stole thousands of dollars worth of items including, disturbingly, several pairs of underwear.
“It freaks me out,” the woman only identified as Deserea told KDVR. “It’s beyond disturbing. Being a single mom, coming from a domestic violence situation, being in a domestic violence shelter and then just now getting out on your own and then this happens.”
She was sent an alert from her security camera system last Wednesday when the man broke into the house she just recently moved into. Surveillance video shows the man gain access through a kitchen window. He then goes through each room searching for valuables. At one point he goes through her underwear drawer and stuffs several pairs into his pockets.
He also removed televisions, medications and even a child’s piggy bank, KDVR reported. The man was in the house for nearly 20 minutes before he realized he was being recorded and pulled down a camera. Other cameras continued recording. The recording and the recordings were sent to a cloud server. Video shows police show up minutes later, guns drawn. The suspect was already gone.
“I can’t even begin to describe the fear I have,” she said. “I haven’t slept. I barely ate. I’m constantly checking doors, windows. I feel so paranoid.”
A GoFundMe account was created to help replace the stolen items.
