HOUSTON — Eight people, including one child, were hit or wounded when an SUV crashed through the front of a Houston grocery store, authorities said.
The people were taken to area hospitals after the driver drove the SUV into a Fiesta Mart, located in southeast Houston, the Houston Chronicle reported. One of the victims was believed to be 9 years old, the newspaper reported. The oldest person injured was in their mid-30s, KPRC reported.
Officers said some of the victims were hit by the SUV or struck by heavy debris that shattered when the vehicle entered the store, according to KTRK.

Police said one victim suffered a head injury but was expected to survive, KPRC reported.
Their conditions were not immediately available.
Houston police said the SUV came to a stop by the cash registers, located about 15 to 20 feet from the store’s entrance, KHOU reported.

Police said the driver, whose identity has not been released, appeared to be intoxicated but was taken to headquarters for further evaluation, the television station reported.
Charges have not been filed, but the investigation is ongoing, police said.
