Audiences will have a chance to travel “somewhere over the rainbow” on the big screen when “The Wizard of Oz” returns to movie theaters for three days only to celebrate the film’s 80th anniversary.
Fathom Events and Turner Classic Movies are screening the iconic film at nearly 700 locations nationwide on Jan. 27, 29 and 30, Forbes reported. It will be the first film in TCM's yearlong "Big Screen Classics" series.

The film was originally released in 1939 and is touted as a cinematic classic. It stars Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, Billie Burke, Margaret Hamilton and the iconic Munchkins.
“The Wizard of Oz” is the most watched movie in history, Forbes reported, citing the Library of Congress. In 1989 it was one of the 25 films inaugurated into the national film registry.
The film’s most recent re-release happened in 2014, when it received a 3D treatment for its 75th anniversary.
