KIRKLAND, Wash. — Two massive trees toppled, crashing into a Kirkland condominium building Thursday evening.
Crews worked into the night to cut and clear the trees and branches from the building at Northeast 124th Street at 98th.
"I heard a loud noise, thought it was an earthquake," said Dennis Dylong. "I jumped up, went to the window and saw branches coming down on the building across from us."
Dylong moved his belongings out of his condo and was forced to stay somewhere else.
One tree came down onto Ryan Larock's car.
"I hear this hailing sound. I come outside. It's really coming down. It's not hail. It's the tree coming down," Larock said.
Eight units were evacuated. Firefighters helped an elderly man get out of one condo. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for shock.
The property manager said she has been trying to get the neighboring property to remove a leaning tree.
"It's the weather, the wind we had today, the wet ground," said Linda Reoh.
Inspectors were expected to examine the building on Friday to see if it's safe for any of the units to be occupied.
