BELLEVUE, Wash. — A Bellevue family, already having its roof redone, had a tree crash down on the house. Bill Dailey said he heard the noise and put his arms around his wife of 56 years, Cathy Dailey.
"When it hit I just put my arms around her," said Bill Dailey, "I'm normally not afraid, but I was afraid for my family."
The tree blew over and the roots were ripped out of the ground.
At first Cathy Dailey thought one of the roofers working on the roof fell.
"It was loud, very loud," said Cathy Dailey.
Thankfully the roofers hadn't climbed on the roof yet. When the tree fell they were still standing around because it was raining so hard.
When she got one look at the tree, she was so relieved no one was hurt.
"I was afraid the tree would come through," she said.
Her great-granddaugher, Bella, is usually sitting in her high chair in the kitchen at the same time the tree hit, around 10 a.m. Thursday they were ahead of schedule and the 10-month-old was already taking a nap safely downstairs.
Her mom was in the shower.
"I ran out of the shower. She was on her back dead asleep, so I ran upstairs," described Heather Hamilton.
The Daileys are thankful no one was hurt and can't help but find the timing of their roofing project a bit ironic.
"So we decided to put a new roof on and that's when the storm from hell came," said Cathy Dailey.
