Student attacked, tied up in high school bathroom

KING COUNTY, Wash. — A 16-year-old girl was found tied up in a school bathroom at Evergreen High School in the White Center area of King County Tuesday morning.

King County deputies were called to the school in the 800 block of Southwest 116th Street at 8:18 a.m. after the student was found.

She was taken to Highline Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The student told police she had been beaten and tied up by two other girls.

Highline Public Schools posted a note to its website that said the campus was in modified lockdown briefly.

Evergreen is part of Highline Public Schools in unincorporated King County. Opened in 1959, it now has students in grades 9-12.

Greg Caudill, a parent, said this should not have happened during instructional time.

“How does it happen? The teachers should be – the kids should all be in class at the beginning of school. There should be nobody going to the bathroom, they should all be in class,” Caudill said.

The TEC principal sent a letter home to families Tuesday that read:

“Evergreen campus was in lockdown after a TEC student was found on the floor of a girls’ restroom. The student was not seriously injured, but apparently had been tied up with a scarf by two other girls. Police and medics were notified immediately. Police and school district security are investigating.”

A King County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said they are still trying to figure out the people responsible, and that anyone with information should call the sheriff’s office or Crimestoppers.
