Store Manager: Man bought tools, broke in

SEATTLE, Wash. — The manager of a Wallingford hardware store is convinced one of his customers turned into a crook overnight.

Tweedy and Popp Ace Hardware in Wallingford was burglarized early Thursday morning.

The burglar broke in through a glass back door and was caught on camera.

The man spent just over a minute in the store and stole burglary tools.

Store manager Tony O'Connor is convinced he waited on the guy in his store on Wednesday. The man bought an emergency tool that can break glass.

He said the man was wearing a North Face coat and red tennis shoes. He compared the videos and is confident it is the same man.

"I kind of expected him to be breaking and entering somewhere. But I didn't expect it to be here, " said O'Connor, who is warning other businesses.

He wants people to take a good look at the video so police can find out who he is.

O'Connor said when the man was a customer in the store he complained that $50 was too expensive for bolt cutters. The burglar stole bolt cutters and a crow bar this morning.

He wants to get the word out because he thinks the burglar will strike again. "He still has all the tools. So he's out there and he's certainly going to break in to somewhere else," warned O’Connor.
