Police ask potential crime victims to come to a viewing of stolen property at the King County Sheriff’s Office precinct in Maple Valley on Thursday, March 26, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Victims should come ready with their case numbers from reported thefts or burglaries.
The precinct is located at 22300 SE 231st St. in Maple Valley.
One item, a Japanese katana-style sword brought back from WWII by a Marine, has already been returned to the family of the late veteran.
A fellow Marine who is now working as a deputy with the Covington Police Department knew about the loss, recognized the sword, and returned it to the thankful family. The sword was stolen from the Covington home of the late WWII veteran’s grandson in January.
An investigation into drugs and stolen property led Maple Valley, Covington and King County sheriff's detectives to a house in the Timberlane area of Covington.
The Sheriff’s Office SWAT team secured the house shortly before 6 a.m. on March 13. Detectives said they searched the house and found a large number of items suspected to have been stolen from throughout south King County.
Two people were arrested on drug charges during the search.
