Social media post about bombs, grenades results in two teens' arrest

THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — Two teens who admitted posting a meme on social media that included comments about grenades, bombs and even a caption: "notices weird kid taking out AR-15," were arrested in Thurston County, officials said.

The Thurston County Sheriff's Office said a parent called about 11 p.m. Wednesday to report that her daughter had observed the "concerning" comments on Instagram.

Deputies contacted a 15-year-old boy from Rainier High School and a 16-year-old boy from Yelm High school who both admitted to putting up the posts and claimed they were a joke, officials said.

Deputies said no weapons or bombs were found in the teens' possession.

The school district was made aware of the threat and increased police presence at Rainier High School.

The boys were booked into the Thurston County Youth Services Center for threats to bomb.

The Sheriff's Office commended the teen who spoke up when she saw the post and comments.
