JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. — On Wednesday at 11:59 p.m., crews shut down southbound lanes of I-5 near Joint Base Lewis-McChord to safely remove an unexploded munition.
The closure occurred at exit 120 near the railroad tracks that run along I-5 and in the vicinity of the JBLM Main Gate.

Officials said railroad track workers unearthed an old unexploded munition while working on the tracks. The object appeared to be a very old land mine that has been buried for a long time.
The JBLM explosive ordinance disposal unit determined the munition to be real and that it should be removed for detonation.
