Gig Harbor police clear family of wrong doing in Casey Kasem death

GIG HARBOR, Wash. — The family of beloved TV personality Casey Kasem has officially been cleared by Gig Harbor Police of any wrongdoing in his death.

Kasem's family and wife, Jean Kasem, have been embroiled in a legal battle for years since his death in 2014. In October 2018, Jean initiated a complaint through a private investigator to the Kitsap County Sheriff's department, alleging that seven members of Casey's family had acquired his signature on "power of attorney" documents while he was under the influence of medication that impaired his judgment.

The complaint also claimed that Kasem's family made false allegations of elder abuse against Jean, including "multiple false calls for service" to Los Angeles Adult Protective Services and the LAPD.

The complaint was forwarded to the Gig Harbor Police Department, that concluded through its own administrative review that Jean's private investigator "fail(ed) to provide any factual information, evidence, or documentation that would corroborate or refute this claim and relies solely on allegation."

"The Gig Harbor Police Department investigation revealed that the standard of care delivered to Mr. Kasem by medical personnel was appropriate and that any medical decisions were made by family members authorized to act on his behalf," said Gig Harbor Police in a news release released Friday.
