Sounders announce event; signs point to Jordan Morris

SEATTLE — The Seattle Sounders have announced a significant club event for Thursday with all indications pointing toward the signing of Stanford star Jordan Morris.

The Sounders did not reveal the subject of Thursday's announcement, but Morris' MLS rights are owned by Seattle as a homegrown player and he played for the Sounders' academy.

Earlier this week, Morris turned down an offer to play for Werder Bremen in Germany. The German club announced Morris' decision, saying he saw his future in America.

Morris made his national team debut in 2014 and scored in 2015 in an exhibition against Mexico. The 21-year-old junior forward had a pair of goals to lead Stanford over Clemson 4-0 for its first NCAA men's soccer title in December and he won the Hermann Trophy as the top college player. He skipped his senior season at Stanford to turn pro.

His father, Dr. Michael Morris, is medical director for the Sounders.
