FedEx blames severe weather and a surge of last-minute online shoppers for late packages across the country, including in Seattle.
In many cases – FedEx couldn’t estimate a number when asked by KIRO 7 – packages that were supposed to arrive by Christmas Eve did not.
It’s why FedEx Express offices are open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, and why delivery trucks will be going door-to-door on Christmas to deliver the late packages.
"They're opening at 9, and I'm very grateful that they are,” said Flip Morse, who showed up as the office opened Christmas morning.
He told KIRO 7 that he wouldn’t be celebrating Christmas with the family until he picked up two packages from inside.
"I'm happy they're open, at least the presents will be delivered this morning. A little late, but they'll get delivered,” said Morse.
FedEx says home deliveries will be their top priority.
FedEx has been busier than ever sorting packages this holiday season, and they predicted about 317 million pieces shipped between Cyber Monday and Christmas Eve.
