Snoqualmie's Summit West open for business

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — On Friday morning, The Summit at Snoqualmie opened for skiers and snowboarders, marking the beginning of the ski season.

More than 25 inches of snow fell at the resort’s base elevation during the last storm cycle, which contributed to Snoqualmie opening at 9 a.m. Friday with limited runs at Summit West.

"It's exciting, because we're waiting for it to open!" said Ethan Duvall, who showed up with his three friends to ride the first lift chair of the season.

The last time the public rode those lifts was early February, when warm weather and lack of snow closed Summit at Snoqualmie early for the first time in a decade.

Usually, skiers can ride until early May.

Alpental, Summit East and Summit Central are still closed.

Summit West will be open for limited operations from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday through Sunday.
