Showers forecast for Seahawks-Packers game in Seattle

Still looking like a wet field for Seahawks-Packers, but showers will be on the wane.

The weather for Sunday's NFC championship game between the Seahawks and Green Bay Packers in Seattle is forecast to be rain showers with a high temperatureof 53 degrees. Here's a complete forecast from KIRO 7 Meteorologist Morgan Palmer, and you can get the latest radar images by downloading the KIRO 7 Pinpoint Weather app.

Through Saturday

Following a few morning showers north of Seattle and in the mountains, we'll have a mainly dry day around the Sound with a mix of clouds and sunshine.

Highs today will be around 53 degrees.

Tonight, we'll be tracking rain moving back in from the west and it'll be a bit soggy around the Sound by Daybreak. With some breaks from the rain from time-to-time, it'll once again be mainly cloudy with highs around 50.

Heavier rain arrives Saturday evening and continues Saturday night before tapering Sunday morning. The mountains get 2-4 inches of rain below about 6,000 feet (with the snow level up there so it is mainly rain at the passes) through Saturday night and into Sunday.

Strong wind potential Saturday night with gusty wind Sunday

I am increasingly concerned about a period of strong wind around the Sound Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Some of the morning forecast models point to a six-to-eight hour period of wind gusts over 40 mph around Puget Sound, including Seattle with a peak wind period in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

Wind won't be quite as strong Sunday morning and showers will be slowly tapering (though by this point, we're very soggy area-wide), but the wind stays brisk through the morning and possibly into the afternoon.

Thus, with this longer period of wind and possibly some very gusty times Saturday night and early Sunday morning, a Wind Advisory might be issued for the Sound for Saturday night into Sunday.

So, what about the game?

If the forecasts for strong wind just off the deck (a few thousand feet up) remain probable, some wind gusts could make it to the surface around the few showers we'll still have around by game time.

The wind would generally be blowing from south endzone to north and would be aligned to be a potential factor in gameplay.

GAME FORECAST (as it stands at midday Friday):
A mix of showers and sunbreaks
Sustained south to southwest wind 15-30mph
Gusts over 35 mph possible
Wind slightly stronger first half vs. second half.
