EATONVILLE, Wash. — An orphaned moose calf who arrived at the Northwest Trek Wildlife Park last month was introduced to new herd mates Wednesday.
Park officials said Aspen, who was orphaned in Idaho this summer, met her new Trek pals, Spruce and Willow.
“They all are pretty relaxed,” zoological curator Marc Heinzman said.
Park officials said things are going well.
Aspen, who is estimated to be about 4 ½ months old, arrived at the park in late August and weighed about 192 pounds. Now she weighs 256 pounds.
Aspen was born in Idaho and was found wandering alone and orphaned for several weeks on the Fort Hall Reservation near Pocatello. Fish and Game officials searched for Aspen’s mother but could not find her. She was taken to Zoo Idaho for care.
“Moose are a signature species at Northwest Trek, and we are proud to offer our visitors a chance to see them up close and personal in their natural habitat,” Heinzman said.
The addition of Aspen brings the number of moose at the park to six, officials said.
