Seattle seniors worry about Metro bus cuts

Seniors living in Seattle's Washington Terrace apartments emailed KIRO 7.
They are worried about King County Metro's proposal to delete route 27, their only bus up and down steep Yesler Way to downtown.
Jane Herrmann said, "It would leave us stranded up on this hill."
Gladys Cardiff said, "People get their food, and their medicines and their doctor visits by taking the 27."
More than a dozen of the seniors took vans or walked to a Metro meeting Tuesday afternoon to protest.
Some were told there were no bus service alternatives if they lost the route 27  due to a big budget shortfall.
We checked with a Metro manager and found that that is not true.
Marty Minkoff with Metro said if the 27 disappears, route 106 from Renton would be rerouted to a short stretch of Yesler Way to pick up Washington Terrace residents.
Minkoff  also said the 106 would come more frequently, every 15minutes instead of every half hour during the week.
When we passed that information along to the protesting seniors, they were pleasantly surprised.
Cyril Hylton said, "I didn't hear about this until now, until you brought it to my attention, and it's like, this is great."
