Access to water at the Magnuson Park dogs off-leash area was closed after toxic algae was found in accumulated scum.
The area, on the shores of Lake Washington, was closed by the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department. Water samples were collected and submitted to the State Toxic Algae Program by the King County Department of Natural Resources
Water access in the off-leash area is closed until it is deemed safe for dogs to swim and play in, parks officials said. Staff said it was done out of an abundance of caution.
Officials said people and pets should not wade or play in the lake where the scum has accumulated and dogs should not drink from the lake in these areas. If a pet contacts the water, it is important to rinse them off well to remove all algae.
