Seattle elephants' trip to Oklahoma City resumes after delay

Seattle's beloved elephants were back on the road Monday night heading for their new home in Oklahoma City.

The elephants were a day into their journey last month when a snowstorm in the Rockies redirected them south to San Diego.

But Tuesday morning, Bamboo and Chai, who used to be at Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo, are once again on the road.

The move has been controversial from the start. Opponents wanted the elephants to be sent to a sanctuary, not another zoo.

The trip from San Diego is expected to take between 25 and 30 hours and includes planned stops to check on the elephants and refresh their food and water.

Once they finally get to Oklahoma City, the pair of Asian elephants will be quarantined for 30 days as is standard procedure.

They will join five other elephants already at that zoo.
