BALTIMORE — The Seattle Seahawks held the lead over the Baltimore Ravens throughout the game Sunday, winning 35-6.
The Seahawks are definitely looking more like defending NFC champions. The team (8-5) has won six of seven to move into position for an NFC wild card.
1.) Russell Wilson was on fire.
The quarterback’s incredible run continued Sunday, throwing five successful passes that resulted in touchdowns.
Here’s a breakdown:
- In Q4, Wilson passed a touchdown to Doug Baldwin, extending the lead 35-6.
- In Q4, Wilson threw another touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett for a 49-yard touchdown.
- In Q3, Baldwin made a touchdown
- In Q2, Wilson passed to wide receiver Baldwin to the right for 14-yard touchdown
- In Q1, Wilson passed to wide receiver Lockett for an 8-yard touchdown.
“The Ravens rushed about 18 people but couldn't get to the quarterback,” KIRO announcer Steve Raible said in the fourth quarter.
The five TD throws matched a career high — set earlier this season against Pittsburgh — and gave him 16 over his last four games.
2.) Wide receiver Doug Baldwin has made eight touchdowns in three games.
Wilson wasn’t the only one blazing the field Sunday. Baldwin scored on passes of 14, 22 and 16 yards.
ESPN writes that Wilson and Baldwin are the most productive quarterback/wide receiver combination in the NFL in the last month.
3.) Rookie Tyler Lockett keeps up momentum.
Wide receiver Lockett, who coach Pete Carroll called the hardest-working player on the team, continues to give the Seahawks a boost.
Here’s some of his game highlights:
- Wilson passed to wide receiver Lockett for an 8-yard touchdown.
- In the second half, Wilson threw a touchdown pass to Lockett for a 49-yard touchdown.
- Another week, and another great catch by Lockett. Despite the catch, he got another targeting foul.
4.) Thomas Rawls out for the rest of season
Seattle rookie running back Thomas Rawls hurt his left ankle in the first quarter of a game against the Ravens and will not return.
Carroll said he will be out the rest of the season with a broken ankle.
The injury occurred during the Seahawks' opening drive Sunday. Rawls was hit behind the line and dropped for a 3-yard loss on a play with 5:36 remaining.
Rawls gained 44 yards on six carries before leaving the game.
Rawls was getting extended playing time as the replacement for the injured Marshawn Lynch. The rookie came into the game with 786 yards rushing on 141 carries.
After the game, coach Pete Carroll & player Richard Sherman tweeted out their support for Rawls and sadness at the development.
Additionally, strong safety Kam Chancellor (tailbone) and Safety DeShawn Shead (ankle) were questionable to return to Sunday’s game.
