YAKIMA, Wash. — A Department of Corrections officer was shot in Yakima according to the Yakima Police Department. The officer is part of the Pacific Northwest Violent Offenders Task Force, a multi-agency team tasked with arresting dangerous offenders.
The team went to South Ninth Avenue and Nob Hill Boulevard around 1 p.m. to arrest a suspect in connection with a drive-by shooting earlier in the day.
Investigators say officers when on the porch when shots were fired at them from inside the house.
One of those bullets hit a Department of Corrections officer in the leg, leaving a grazing wound.
She was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and released.
The suspect in the officer's shooting remained in the house, and gunshots were fired around 2:45 p.m.
After firing at a SWAT team, he surrendered. Police kept the house surrounded by the SWAT team to make sure there was no one left in the house.

Police asked the public to stay out of the area of Nob Hill Boulevard and South Ninth Avenue.
Hoover Elementary was on lockdown due to the police action in the neighborhood.
Neighbors were thankful the officer is going to be all right. "I'm glad she's OK. It's sad to see an officer get hurt. We have some good officers here in Yakima. It's sad to see one of them get hurt," said Harven, who lives down the street.
The corrections officer recently transferred from the Seattle area to Yakima.
The suspect is 25 years old and familiar to law enforcement.
