RENTON, Wash. — It's a parking ticket scam police say is so good, even they are impressed.
On Wednesday, police say a victim came to the police station with a fake ticket, which he got for parking in a crosswalk. The information on the ticket all looks legit – but the red flag was the envelope it came in, which had a P.O. box address and not Renton City Hall.
Now Renton police are warning people not to send money to criminals.
"Gotta admit, I'm impressed by the quality of the work on this,” said Det. Robert Onishi, with the Renton Police Department.
It's so good, there's no telling how many people have fallen for the fake.
In an informal survey in downtown Renton, we asked people if they could tell the fake ticket from a real one in a side-by-side comparison. Most people thought the fake ticket was real.
"It's a good counterfeit. I'll bet people would pay it,” said Kevin Kramer.
"That is creative criminals,” said Andre Green.
Anyone who has received a fake ticket is urged to contact Sgt. Radke at 425-430-7529 and reference Renton police case 15-6883.
