Suspect in fatal shooting of Mount Vernon cab driver arrested in Lakewood

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a taxi driver in Mount Vernon.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired at a gas station in the downtown area at South Third and  Montgomery streets about 9:45 p.m. Monday.

A witness said she heard a single gunshot, and when police arrived, they found a taxi that had rolled into some shrubbery.

Its driver was dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

People said they saw a man run from the area, and a carjacking occurred a few blocks away.  Police said they believe the person responsible for the carjacking is also the suspect in the shooting.

"The Whatcom County Sheriff's Department came down to use their K-9, and right now we're talking to the Washington State Crime Lab to see if they'll process the scene," said Jerry Dodd with Mount Vernon police.

Scanner traffic indicated that  a BOLO, or be on the lookout,  for a black 90s model Toyota Camry with white rims, was issued among officers for the stolen vehicle.

Police arrested a suspect in the shooting in Lakewood Tuesday morning.
