Point Defiance Zoo to hold public meetings on new aquarium

From files.

Two public meetings are scheduled for September 28 and 30 to discuss the details of the new aquarium scheduled to open and Point Defiance Zoo & aquarium in the summer of 2018.

The roughly 34,000 foot structure is still in the design and development stage and is part of the $198 million Metro parks Tacoma bond measure. Construction is expected to begin next summer.

The new structure will be roughly 12,000 square feet larger than the North Pacific Aquarium.

The new structure will feature a number of new galleries of marine animals found in the Puget Sound and the Pacific Ocean.

The meetings will include information about where the new aquarium will be located, it’s size, and details on the various galleries that it will features.

Details and meeting agendas can be found at the Point Defiance Zoo website.
