Pedestrian dies after attempt to retrieve box on I-5

Federal Way, Wash. — A pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle last night on Southbound I-5 near Federal Way.

21-year-old Robert R.Tenaruiz died on scene.
Four lanes of the freeway were blocked by the collision, which occurred at about 8:40 p.m.
The collision occurred after a box dropped out of the vehicle that Tenaruiz was travelling in. The vehicle pulled off to the shoulder of the road.
Tenaruiz exited the vehicle and attempted to retrieve the box from a center lane.
Another vehicle struck him while he was retrieving the box.
CPR was attempted but was unsuccessful.
The roadway was blocked for two hours and five minutes.
