Package thief caught on camera

A woman was caught on home surveillance camera Monday, stealing several packages off a front porch in West Seattle.
The homeowners said they realized Monday night they had not received some packages they had expected.

SEATTLE — Megan Schade said she and her fiancé then checked their cameras to see if the gifts had been delivered. That’s when they saw a woman pull up to their house, steal their packages, load them in her green Subaru and drive away within a matter of seconds.

“She kind of just walked up with such ease and confidence, just like she knew what she was doing. And I was absolutely shocked,” Schade said.

The thief took an 18-piece glass Tupperware set, a video game and some hand cream. Schade said the total was less than $130, but it wasn’t about the money.

“It was just kind of - so violating, almost. She kind of knew what she was doing. It was very eerie,” Schade said.

Luckily, Amazon and Nordstrom replaced the packages with overnight shipping. The only other merchant told Schade they couldn’t do anything to replace the gift.

Schade said they told their community watch group about the incident and found out  the same thing happened to another neighbor around the same time Monday.

She said, “You think of Christmas as a time of giving and sharing. Part of me feels like she must have really needed these gifts to steal it. But the other part - it just kind of makes you sick about it.”

Schade and her fiancé filed a police report and hope anyone who recognizes the woman or her car will contact police.
