Overheated wiring causes house fire in Eastlake

SEATTLE — Seattle fire investigators said a fire at a home in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood was caused by overheated electrical wiring.

The homeowner called 911 at 5:51 a.m. Wednesday reporting that fire and black smoke were coming from the attic of his home in the 2200 block of Eastlake Avenue East.

The first arriving firefighters found all of the occupants safely outside and smoke coming from the one-and-a-half story house.

Flames were extending toward a nearby structure.

Firefighters cut large holes in the roof to ventilate gases and smoke from the attic and were able to keep the flames contained.

The fire was out within 10 minutes.

Fire Investigators determined the electrical wiring in the attic overheated and ignited wood ceiling joists.

The damage estimate is $40,000 to the structure and $20,000 to the contents.

There were no injuries reported.
