Only on KIRO 7: Teen who thwarted Kirkland kidnapping tells his story

KIRKLAND, Wash. — On Saturday, a stranger approached Adam Faccone’s little sister and her 8-year-old friend at Kirkland’s Marina Park.

"It was just out of the blue, I was freaked out by it,” said Faccone, who was watching the girls while parents were nearby after a day at the beach.

"This guy came out of nowhere, and he started asking them questions like how old are you,  where are your parents,” said Faccone.

"I'm like, she's with me, and I reach out to grab her hand and pull her in behind me. And he goes underneath her and picks her off the ground a little bit--and I grabbed her arms and ripped her back towards me,” added Faccone.

Adam thought it would end there, but he says the man--who smelled of alcohol--wouldn't give up.

"And he gets up in my face like, what are you doing? And all this stuff, I'm like, what are you doing?"

Adam’s father John was nearby and came running toward the man.

"He was definitely under the influence of something. When I came over and looked him in the eyes, and tried talking to him, he wasn't all there,” said John Faccone.

John says the suspect's friends tried to hurry him away from the scene.

Police tell us they arrested that man blocks away.

Kirkland police told us Saturday the suspect would be transferred to the King County Jail.

We checked and found an inmate there for suspicion of kidnapping that would fit the time frame, but officials haven't confirmed his identity.
