BURLINGTON, Wash. — Two teenage boys are in custody and a 16-year-old is dead after a shooting at a Burlington apartment complex.
At 11:25 p.m. Thursday, Burlington police were called to the Heritage Place apartments for a report of someone who had been shot.
When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old boy who had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
One of the suspects, a 15-year-old boy from Burlington who is believed to be the shooter, was taken into custody at his home a short time later.
Police said the shooting was reported to have happened during a fight between the teens.
Though the motive for the shooting is unclear, police said the suspect and the victim are believed to be involved in gang activity.
He is being held at Skagit County Juvenile Detention for investigation of second-degree murder.
Detectives were looking for a person of interest in the shooting. On Monday, a 17-year-old Burlington boy was arrested at his home. He is also being held at Skagit County Juvenile Detention for investigation of second-degree murder.
