Driver thrown off moped after crashing into vehicle

SEATTLE — A 27-year-old man was thrown off his moped after he collided with a vehicle early Saturday morning, according to the Seattle Police Department.

Police said the incident happened on 25th Avenue approaching East Spring Street around 1:30 a.m.

The moped driver was traveling northbound on the street while the driver of a 1989 Chrysler New Yorker was traveling eastbound. The two vehicles crashed in the intersection and the moped driver was thrown to the street, according to police.

The moped driver sustained substantial facial injuries, and was wearing a helmet with no face shield, police said.

Seattle police and fire department responded to the scene and treated the moped driver before taking him to Harborview Medical Center. His injuries were non-life threatening.

Police said the moped driver exhibited signs of impairment. He was evaluated and processed for driving under the influence.

Officers evaluated the driver of the vehicle at the scene but signs of impairment were not detected.

Detectives from the traffic collision investigation squad will continue to investigate the collision.
