Report: Lynch doesn't wear gold cleats after penalty threat

SEATTLE — Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch did not wear customized gold cleats in Sunday’s NFC Championship -- allegedly because of a threatened penalty.

According to ESPN, the NFL told Lynch that wearing the golden cleats would violate the league's uniform code and disqualify him from playing in the NFC Championship game on January 18.

A custom shoe artist called ‘SolesBySir’ wrote on Instagram that the company couldn’t wait to see Marshawn Lynch ‘rocking these [golden cleats] this weekend.’

‘So apparently my work has the @nfl threatening to eject @MarshawnLynch24 out of the game wow,’ wrote the company ‘SolesBySir’ over Twitter on Sunday.

The golden cleats reportedly cost around $1,000.

In 2011, Lynch was fined for wearing cleats with Skittles on them, and in December, 2014 for grabbing his crotch after a touchdown.

At game-time, Marshawn was wearing cleats with team colors -- and not the customized, golden ones.
