An earthquake with magnitude 7 occurred southwest of Japan around 1 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday.
It hit near Kagoshima, Kyushu, Japan.
Tsunami advisories were issued for portions of southwestern Japan, including the Tanegashima Yakushima areas, the Weather Channel reported. Those warnings have since been lifted.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
