EVERETT, Wash. — Police took two men into custody accused of attacking a man in his own home with pistols, before their botched getaway attempt left a trail of destruction across south Everett.
It all began with a home invasion in the 7700 block of Grant Drive.
"A man was on his property outside his house when he was contacted by two other males," said Everett police spokesman Aaron Snell, who added that the victim did not know the two men. "We're not sure what was said or done, but they ended up going inside the house with the male where an assault occurred."
Then the two men fled in a vehicle, making it to the nearby intersection of Broadway and Spokane.
“I was upstairs in my dining room and I just heard a ‘cuh-bam,’ really loud!” said Pam Wilson.
The getaway vehicle had slammed into the mailbox of Wilson’s condo complex. Then the suspects smashed into a silver vehicle, and tossed a gun out of the car with police in pursuit.
Snell said the suspects then hit yet another vehicle as they merged onto Highway 526 near Evergreen. That collision caused them to crash into the embankment.
The two men fled but officers were able to quickly take both into custody.
Friday’s violent home invasion is the second in Everett in the last three days. Surveillance video captured the first incident Wednesday. In that case, robbers kicked in doors, ripped a cellphone from the homeowner’s hand and grabbed a necklace right off her neck.
Police are not yet sure if there’s a link between the two crimes.
"We still have a lot investigative work to do, and we will be working the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office on this one," Snell said.
The Sheriff’s Office is handling Wednesday’s home invasion case.
