MARYSVILLE, Wash. — A brazen vandal broke the windows to more than a dozen businesses in Marysville, with the town’s post office impacted especially hard.
Security video shows that it took only seconds for the suspect to make his mark along the 1000 block of State Avenue.
“It’s uncalled for,” said Marysville resident Doug Erickson. “You got people who don’t have enough stuff to do.”
The Marysville Post Office bore the brunt of the suspect’s rage.
As a result, the entire front of the building was boarded up after more than a dozen windows were shattered.
Less than 500 feet away, Annette Mora’s dress shop was also hit.
“The windows right now are really expensive,” she told KIRO 7.
Mora now faces a bill of at least $3,000. She said the vandalism occurred at a time when her business was just starting to make a comeback during the pandemic.
“It’s really sad. It’s disappointing at the same time. Why is this happening right now during this time that’s already hard?” she wondered.
The good news for Mora and other affected business owners is that Marysville police have made an arrest in this “smashing spree.”
Mora said she was told the arrested man is homeless, which she insisted is a problem in itself.
“We can’t do anything because everything is just being destroyed. (Authorities) are not doing anything about it,” she said.
KIRO 7 has reached out to Marysville police about these incidents.
They confirmed that the suspect is homeless and added that he is still in jail.
With more than a dozen windows ruined at the Marysville Post Office, officers said taxpayers would have to foot the bill for the destruction.
