SEATTLE — University of Washington cornerback Byron Murphy is forgoing his remaining two years of eligibility and has declared for the 2019 NFL Draft.
Murphy, a redshirt sophomore from Scottsdale, Arizona, joins Taylor Rapp as the second member of the University of Washington's secondary to declare for the draft since the Huskies' 28-23 Rose Bowl loss to Ohio State on New Year's Day.
Murphy redshirted during the 2016 season, but finished his career with 20 games played. In his two seasons, Murphy recorded 74 total tackles, seven interceptions, 27 passes defensed and two forced fumbles.
He was named the 2018 Pac-12 Championship Game after recording two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown, in the Huskies’ 10-3 win over Utah.
“I would like to thank Husky nation for the endless support & love that you have shown me & my family throughout my time at UW. No matter where my journey takes me, I know UW will always be home,” Murphy said, in part, on Twitter.
