The University of Washington announced Friday, which was also National Puppy Day, its newest member -- Dubs II.

He was born on Jan. 4, 2018, and is the school's 14th live mascot.

The school said Dubs II  has been adopted by a local UW alumni family. The school received more than 90 applications to be caretakers.

Dubs II is now in training for mascot duties and will start his role in 2019.

He is an Alaskan malamute, just like his predecessors, and is a distant relative of the current Dubs, as they share the same grandfather.

The 2018 football season will be the current Dubs' last year as the official mascot.
