SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — A fire in Smokey Point that damaged two homes and killed at least one dog put crews on high alert during dry and windy conditions.
Early Tuesday, the fire at a home on 179th Place Northeast, north of Lakewood Crossing, lit up the sky.
At around 1:30 a.m., the flames were seen on Washington State Department of Transportation cameras on Interstate 5 about a half-mile away.
The Marysville Fire Department said two homes were significantly damaged but crews were able to stop the flames from spreading to other homes.
No people were hurt, but two dogs may have died in the flames. One dog was found dead and the other is missing, according to firefighters.
The Red Cross is helping two people who were displaced from one of the homes.
It’s unclear what started the fire, but currently, the danger of fires spreading is high once one begins. Currently, there is low humidity, wind, and warmer temperatures.
A Red Flag Warning was issued for the central and south Cascades. There is also higher fire danger in the foothills and south and west of Seattle.
