Too hot? New app connects private pool owners with people looking to cool off

As Western Washington weather trends towards the high 80s and edges towards 90 on Thursday, people looking for a way to cool off may have a new answer.

A new app named Swimply looks to connect private pool owners with people that want to use a pool.

Pool owners that have underutilized pools can also offer their pool up to earn some extra money.

Here’s how it works: You’re sweating at home, the kids are bouncing off the walls and you’re looking for an affordable activity that everyone can enjoy.

A user would log onto swimply.com or use their app, and search for a pool in their area.

A quick search of their website shows available pools all across the Puget Sound, from Everett to Tacoma.

Rates vary from $35 an hour for a simple hot tub in Seattle to $145 an hour for an indoor heated pool in Shoreline. There’s even a pool in Issaquah with a waterslide at $130 an hour!

Some pools have access to restrooms, barbecues, towels, WiFi and more.

Started in 2019, Swimply began when co-founders Bunim Laskin and Asher Weinberger met at an entrepreneurship event with a similar idea. According to Swimply, the two started knocking on doors to see if people would be willing to rent their pools out.

The two started the website and had thousands of bookings within a few weeks.
