VANCOUVER, B.C. — The concert tour that made Taylor Swift a billionaire finally ended on Sunday night, complete with cheers of “thank you” from the crowd.
After almost two years of surprise songs, costumes, and friendship bracelet swapping, this era has ended.
Vancouver marked the last stop of the Eras Tour, with a reportedly very un-swift almost three-hour wait to cross the BC border from Washington at the Peace Arch, almost undeniably due to the influx of Swifties.
The financial impact of this tour cannot be overstated — Taylor Swift raked in an estimated $2 billion over two years. Around the world, in each of the 50 cities that Swift visited, her fans created a windfall of cash as they filled hotels and restaurants at each stop. The economic impact in the U.S. alone was estimated at more than $10 billion.
She broke plenty of other records while on tour, too.
Right here in Seattle, Swifties caused seismic activity equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake, 0.3 points higher than Marshawn Lynch’s beast quake.
During one of her speeches last night, Swift said more than 10 million people attended her shows. That doesn’t even include some of the people who stood outside arenas listening to her show.
She says the reason the tour lasted so long is because of her fans and their dedication to her music, adding that the last two years were the “most beloved” chapter of her life.
For the final three shows, all held in Vancouver, officials said up to 70% of ticket holders were not from the Vancouver area, including 40% who were international travelers.
In all, Taylor Swift completed 149 shows across the US, Canada, Latin America, Asia, and Europe.
