TACOMA, Wash. — Ask drivers in Tacoma about potholes and you'll get a lot of unhappy answers.
"They're terrible," said Sharon Hullaby. "I mean, there's no street you can drive down that you don't run into one."
"It just tears up everybody's cars," added Stephen Washington. "We've already had two cars get the tires messed up. They're everywhere."
Shannon Lowell says the potholes are costing him as well.: "I had to get two alignments done in the last year."
The city is working to fix them thanks to two initiatives approved by voters last year that will raise $175 million over the next decade. But the fix will take time.
So to keep the public up to date, the city has started an online dashboard that shows how much has been raised and where it's going. The website is called Tacoma Streets Initiative. There is also an interactive map that shows where work is scheduled and when it will get underway.
"We want them to know we take this seriously, being very transparent how we're spending those resources," said Tacoma Director of Public Works Kurtis Kingsolver.
"We haven't passed an initiative like this since the late '60s. I mean, this is a big deal to the city, it's a big deal to Public Works and it's a big deal to citizens, who are going to see a huge amount of work over the next ten years."
